In the United States, the Church World
Service Education and Advocacy Program helps people speak out on
key issues to their elected leaders and public policy decision
makers. These issues are related to the following topics:
Water for All
Trade and Justice
HIV/AIDS
Hunger and Poverty
Women and Children
Refugees and the Displaced
Conflict Resolution
Millennium Development Goals
In Vietnam, Church World Service is committed
to the issues of hunger and poverty reduction and the
achievement of the Millennium Development Goals. We fully
support the Government of Vietnams Comprehensive Poverty
Reduction and Growth Strategy and the Vietnam Development Goals
(VDGs), which both aim to achieve these goals. Our poverty
reduction programs target the poorest regions and reach the most
disadvantaged households, making a lasting contribution to
development of the country.
A special area of concern for CWS in Vietnam
is around the issues of water and sanitation. In conjunction
with the larger WATER FOR ALL campaign, CWS in Vietnam works
at both the grassroots and the national level to bring about
safe and fair access to water supply and sanitation facilities
for all people.
CWS is working with local communities to
provide piped water systems, water storage facilities, dug and
drilled wells, and water filter systems. We also provide school
children safe and hygienic latrines, and enhanced health
education programs particularly on sanitation issues. We include
training on operation and maintenance in all our construction
projects, and enable community members to organize to manage the
facilities.
CWS also is one of lead NGOs in the water supply and sanitation sector in Vietnam. We
join the
NGO Resource Center Water Supply and Sanitation Working Group,
which is comprised of over 100 national and international
organizations. The Working Group aims to enhance cooperation in
the sector, and contribute positively to the policy dialogue at
the national level. We work to ensure that grassroots voices and
concerns around the WATER FOR ALL issues are heard when policy
decisions are being made.

Program web site for more information.
